Moto-Hakone Area

Lake Ashi, a crater lake of 40km around, is a sightseeing spot representing Hakone.
It is divided into five areas; Hakone-machi, Moto-hakone, Hakone-en, Kojiri, and Togendai, and connected by a sightseeing cruise. Lake Ashi is full of sightseeing spots around the area. There are historic spots such as Hakone Sekisho, Hakone Shrine, and Kyukaido Suginamiki (Historic Route of Cedars Avenue) in Hakone-machi and Moto-hakone on the south side of the lake.

Yuugiriso / 夕霧荘


Yugiriso is an onsen ryokan, established in 1923. It is convenient not only for visiting historical sites, such as Hakone Sekisho (facility for inspection), cedar walkway but also for Ashinoko cruise. Both indoor bathroom and open-air bathroom are available for a whole night. They get their spa water from Ashinoko Onsen, and its open-air bathroom with white turbid onsen has been receiving a number of favorable response.

Hakone Sekisho, an important site for the history of transport and communication during the Edo period, has been restored based on the old documents revealed specific details for all the buildings and structures of Hakone Sekisho and opened for public since 2007.
